ALCS Committee Overview

Aldo Leopold Charter School is technically both a school and its own school district. We don’t have a large budget for administrative needs, so instead we have a series of committees, made up of staff, students, parents, and community members that provide governing and administrative support.

We welcome anyone to come to a committee meeting, and are always grateful for volunteers willing to dedicate some time to serving.  Parents receive volunteer credit hours for serving on committees. Please contact committee chairs for application forms.

All meetings take place at the school. Exact dates and times do occasionally change, so please check the school’s Calendar before you show up!

School Advisory Council (SAC)
The SAC committee functions in advisory capacity to the Director and the Governing Council. SAC solicits input from the community in the form of open meetings and regular surveys, and uses that information to guide its recommendations. SAC is also responsible for tracking and implementation of the school’s Strategic Plan.

  • Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month, and can be found in the Calendar.
  • Contact: Hannah Wecks, Chair [email protected]

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) has the responsibility to make recommendations to the Director and Governing Council in the development or revision, implementation, and evaluation of the ALCS Wellness Policy.

The ALCS Wellness Policy endeavors to create a total school environment that is conducive to student health and academic achievement.  This inclusive atmosphere features a shared responsibility that supports healthy children and families.  Effective partnerships between families, schools and communities support the development and the maintenance of this comprehensive learning environment.

  • Meetings are the first Wednesday of the month at 4:30
  • Contact: Jim McIntosh, Chair    [email protected]

Development/ Fundraising  and Nominating
The Development Committee is made up of teacher, student, parent and community representatives that meet quarterly. The committee supports several important areas of the 2017 ALCS Strategic Plan. They include the following:

  1. Examine the funding necessary to support school priorities, particularly as they relate to the strategic plan.
  2. Expand methods to promote school reputation.
  3. Examine strategies to increase enrollment responsibly over time.
  4. Expand ALCS work with other schools.
  5. Work closely with the Aldo Leopold Charter School Foundation to integrate plans and effort to increase resources for the school.

The committee helps form the working group responsible for the Annual Fundraising Event each year. They also support the Director of Development if that position is filled with a staff member.

  • Meetings are the third Wednesday of the month, quarterly, at 5pm
  • 2017/2018 Meeting Schedule:  August  15, 2017; November 15, 2017; February 21, 2018; May 16, 2018.
