We are pleased to announce the return of an outdoor component of our Experiential Education Program. We are working hard to provide a safe and healthy experience for students and staff as we all move through this historic time. We are pleased to announce the return of an outdoor component of our Experiential Education Program. We are working hard to provide a safe and healthy experience for students and staff as we all move through this historic time. Please take some time to discuss with your child both the benefits of this type of enriching experience and the need for health and safety protocols.
Here are some things you need to know:
- Our outdoor experiences will be staffed by Fiona Bailey, Jennifer Lepisko, Garret Ferguson, and Avery Jepson-Browne. As additional support we will have Jamie Thompson and Kori Wilkens.
- Our online programs will continue to be staffed by Maia Chaney, Emily Aversa, Erik Weatherbie, and Mark Cantrell.
- Hours will be 8:45 – 11:45 for the outdoor, and 8:30 - 11:30 for the online experiences.
- Please understand that students must not be dropped off before 8:30. Students will immediately report to their assigned leader for the day to maintain social distance and small group cohesiveness.
- Guardians will be responsible for signing a Group Check-in Form (sample) prior to each event. This form will be held by the individual student’s assigned leader when dropping the student off for the day. If siblings are being dropped off, please sign off with both group leaders.
- Students and Guardians must sign the ALCS Experiential Education Waiver in order to attend outdoor learning events.
- Only students with updated school health forms may attend ALCS MIddle School Experiential Education events. Additional health forms are available at the office.
- This program is not mandatory. Students may choose to continue with the online experiential education programs.
- Outdoor experiences will begin with no more than ten students per teacher. Students will stay with the same group for the entire day. Social distancing will be practiced throughout the experience.
- All emergency medications such as rescue inhalers and Epi-pens should be shown to the group leader and/or given to the group leader to carry in their first aid kit.
- Students will need: An appropriate face mask, 2 water bottles, snacks, hiking clothing and shoes appropriate for the day’s weather, a hat, backpack, and a journal and pencil.
- ALCS will provide approved face masks if students are in need. Masks with vents, balaclavas aka gaiters, single layer cloth, and bandanas are not approved masks. Teachers have the right to determine mask suitability.
Thank you,
